Employee Spotlight: Meet Captain Mick Mayers

What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time is kind of funny- I work full time for the Georgia Air National Guard as a firefighter when I’m not at Outside. I have three daughters- Emma, who is in college in Chicago, and Caroline and Honora, who are in high school. Caroline is a senior in high school, and Honora, who is a junior, works with us at Outside as a dockhand! I spend as much time with them as I can.
I am a “life learner”- every year I try to set a big goal, last year was getting my Master Naturalist credential, this year I’m trying up upgrade my 25-ton Master Captain credential to a 50-ton endorsement.
Favorite Trip at Outside?
I really like doing the Dolphin and Tubing trips, they are kind of the best of both worlds, and you really get to interact with the guests on a different level.
What do you love about Outside?
I love the family atmosphere at Outside- I genuinely appreciate everyone I work with and how friendly and helpful they are. I’ve met a lot of new friends here and I always feel like part of the team.
